Computer Paramedic is an IT services company located on the Ecuadorian coast. It is owned and run by Brian Liu – an expat now living in Ecuador.

With over 25 years of prior experience in an IT career in China, Brian’s relocation to Ecuador was a move toward early retirement. Finding lots of free time and a desire to help people with their technology challenges, he soon realized there was a gap in the market for a professional service offering within the expat community.

Ecuador’s expat communities are mostly made up of retired overseas pensioners, with a high percentage of them not speaking the local language. Finding and providing local expert services with competent professionals brings challenges. With Brian’s experience and ability to communicate well in English, his services are highly praised and sought after by expats with technology and communication challenges.

Computer Paramedic offers IT services, from hardware and software support assistance to network and internet services, enabling the expat communities to stay online and connected.

Project requirements / challenges

After realisizing there was a gap in the market which could easily be filled with his expert services and fluency in English, Brian knew he needed help to create a website and get the word out to other expats up and down the coast.

While technically competent, Brian admits his creativity and ability to build a new website, showcase his services, and successfully market those services was not a strong point. And so he hired Pages That Convert to assist in this area.

Our brief for this design and marketing project contained the following key requirements:


  1. Register and configure new domain name
  2. Provision WordPress shared hosting enviroment to host new website
  3. Design and style the website to adopt a clinical look and feel which matches the brand colors and business name. Including the additional functionality:
    1. Simple 4 page site, comprising: Home page, About page, Services page and Contact page.
    2. A contact form that emails any contact meesage from the form submission.
    3. Google Analytics integration to monitor core traffic metrics and audience engagement.
    4. Responsive layout for portable devices.
  4. Implement security processes to ensure the site is up and available 99.9% of the time and to prevent unauthorized access to any administration controls.
  5. Assist with setup of social media profiles.
  6. Build and run a targeted ads campaign to target ideal customer persona and to raise awareness within local expat online communities.
  7. Offer ongoing assistance and support with design, back-end, maintenance and hosting technologies.
  8. Provision and configure new email mailbox to steer client communications to the business.

  • Registered client's desired domain with Ecuadorian registrar
  • Provisioned WordPress hosting environment with sufficient server resources for our client's requirements and expected ongoing traffic
  • Designed and built 4-page website following the web design brief, branding styles and artwork provided by our client
  • Designed, built and verified email contact form to allow for easy communication while maintaining client privacy.

  • Introduced standardized design templates and layouts to make further ongoing content publication conform with branding styles

  • Implemented a support retainer, including routine monthly maintenance, and pro-active monitoring . This gives our client peace of mind on continued website availability.
  • Assisted with help in setting up a Facebook Business Page
  • Setup and ran a Facebook Ads Campaign, targeting expats in the local area over a two month campaign
  • The new website, FB page and targeted ad campaign raised the businesses online profile and visibility during the two month campaign. This in turn allowed our client to onboard over 140 new clients within a 3 hour driving radius
  • Following the initial launch of his website and two month targeted ads campaign, the business owner asked us to halt any further targeting efforts. He now has sufficient ongoing and recurring work through referrals and word of mouth, that further attempts to increase visibility via organic traffic or paid for advertising will not be necessary. A great result and position to be in.

    • Image library optimization with introduction of WebP technology

    • CSS / JavaScript load minify
    • Font pre-loading
  • Hardened site security, comprising:
    • Full site security audit
    • Removal of unused themes and plugins
    • Software updates, where neccesary
    • Introduction of automated daily local backups
    • Introduction of automated offsite-backup policy to the cloud
    • System to prevent brute-force attcks
    • Introduction of 2FA for elevated users / admins
  • Rolled-out deployment of enterprise grade CDN
  • Introduced an ongoing monthly pro active maintenance and premium support retainer
  • Provisioned 2 Office 365 mailboxes and assisted with configuration of Outlook client on customer's latptop and also setup on smartphones
  • Agreed retainer for ongoing SEO fitness efforts and reporting which includes monthly consultancy time to help advance competitive positioning for the business
  • Setup and managed 2-month long FB ads campaign targeting audience aged 45+ and within 100km radius of client's business location
